Theft protection, rain and 4G on a robot mower

Updated

A robot mower sits outside on its own, so theft and weather matter. Some picks name an alarm or GPS tracking on the listing. Some need an add-on module for 4G tracking. Some makers give an IP rating for water. Here is what we could confirm, and what we could not.

"Not named" means the listing we read did not mention it. It does not prove the feature is missing. Check the maker's page for your exact model.

Subscriptions and add-ons

Cellular tracking needs a data connection, and someone pays for it. Ask three questions before you buy:

  1. Is the 4G module built in, included, or an add-on?
  2. How long is the data service included, and what happens after that?
  3. Which features stop working without it? Often it is remote tracking and control away from home Wi-Fi, not mowing.

We do not list prices here. They change, and the terms change with them. Read the current terms on the maker's page.

What IP66 and IPX6 mean

The second digit is water protection. A 6 means the shell resists strong jets of water. It says the case keeps water out. It does not say the mower should cut soaking wet grass. Wet clippings clump, wheels slip on slopes, and ruts form in soft ground. Many owners schedule around rain, even when the mower can handle it.
